Nothing to see here.
oh hai, I’m working on the new rating system. Just taking some measurements and such. It’s a work in progress, so feel free to pop in and let me know what you think. ;D
Okay so after a lot of gazing into my crystal ball (”The thought-hole” to Mr AFK) I’ve decided that it’s aggregate scores that is the future. Famitsu’s been doing it for ages, but there’s few bar none publications that’s doing it over here so it’s also a good way to be somewhat unique. The downside of course is that it takes four people willing and able to participate. But then again, a normal review is still possible just using the mini scores, which looks much nicer than the old ones anyway (in retrospect they were ‘not so good’). Simpler score graphics also lets the author write whatever he wants as a verdict. It’s just more flexible.
So without further ado, here’s a work-in-progress review of A GAME.
A GAME
Someone writes a short and presumably boring description of the game here. Then follows the interesting part: THE SCORES!!

The comments-section also works as a poll for suggestions as to what the aggregate scores should say since I’m sure that all of you has a lot of witty suggestions. If no votes are received my original descriptions will be used.
The current results:
1-4 Brain Poison
5-8 Try Again
9-12 AWESOME Rubbish
13-16 Totally Playable
17-20 Unlabored Flawlessness

I don’t know, the aggregate score-window is a bit too much Vista Aero right now… It’s just really fun to do those in Photoshop…
Any takers?

one thing, you know the gamespot user-review score is quite nice. perhaps to much info and not very original. I like setting scores though ^^
Henke writes
You gonna have to be more specific than that AFK. Take a screenshot perhaps?
Henke writes
Ah I see. Well, personally I’m not keen on the numbers. Perhaps an even better solution would be to be able to give games different marks of distinction, as in the new system that Gamespot editors now use. If you think the game has good audio you could give it the “good audio badge” for example, it’s easier to both use and read.

I honestly fuckin hate those icons at Gamespot, but a system like that is better, numbers are quite…hmmm….how do i put it, 2000?
Henke writes
Well I just think that all the numbers are quite redundant, one 0-5-scale should suffice to get the point across whether the reviewer likes the game or not. If you find something in particular that’s appealing about a game, make a point of it in the written text-section of the review instead, and also mention it under the pro (or con, if you don’t like it)-paragraph.
Don’t worry, soon it will be Caturday.
